Maritza Flores

Maritza Flores is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller whose work explores healing, identity, memory, and cultural transformation. She first discovered art as a tool for survival and self-expression as a teenager who had just immigrated to the United States. Now at 23, her practice continues to center emotional storytelling, dreams, and lived experience, using visual language to process personal and collective narratives.

Maritza does not limit herself to a single medium. She paints, sculpts, and illustrates, guided by the belief that being an artist is not about mastering one form, but about creating boldly and learning how to use each medium with intention and care. Her work often blends traditional and experimental approaches, allowing each piece to dictate its own process and material language. Beyond visual art, she is also a dancer and street photographer, disciplines that influence how she understands movement, observation, and storytelling in her artist practice.

Alongside her artistic career, Maritza is the Programs & Projects Manager at Refuge Art School, where she leads program development, partnerships, and community-centered initiatives that expand access to arts education and creative youth development. She also assists fundraising and event planning and cultivates creative spaces at Western Avenue Studios. She is committed to building environments where freedom, creativity, resilience, and community can thrive, and believes art is a powerful pathway toward connection, empowerment, and personal transformation.
